Freelancer

Freelancer, or Freelance worker, are terms commonly used for a person who is self-employed and not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term. Freelance workers are sometimes represented by a company or a temporary agency that resells freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use professional associations or websites to get work.

Essentially, a freelance job is one where a person works for themselves, rather than for a company. While freelancers do take on contract work for companies and organizations, they are ultimately self-employed.

Freelancers are responsible for all sorts of things that traditional employees are not, such as setting their work hours, keeping track of time spent on different projects, billing clients, and paying their own employment and business taxes. Freelancers are not considered “employees” by the companies they work for, but rather “contractors.”

Businesses are defined as "small" in terms of being able to apply for government support. Small businesses range from fifteen employees to fifty employees, with less than AED 1m annually. Many small businesses are sole proprietor operations consisting solely of the owner, but small businesses can also have a small number of additional employees. Some small businesses that offer an existing product, process or service, do not have growth as their primary objective.

However, in contrast, a business that is created with the intention of becoming a big firm is known as a startup. Startups aim for growth and often offer an innovative product, process or service. The entrepreneurs of startups typically aim to scale up the company by adding employees, seeking international sales, and so on.
